CIW’s exam 1D0-450, “CIW Server Administrator†is an elective requirement for the CIW Professional certification, one of the requirements for the Master Web Site Manager certification, and one of the requirements for the Master CIW Administrator certification.
It is designed for candidates who “configure and manage corporate Internet and intranet infrastructure; monitor Web, FTP, news and mail servers; and configure and deploy e-business solutions servers.†These candidates typically fulfill these roles: LAN/WAN administrators, systems administrators, systems managers, intranet administrators, network engineers and internetworking engineers.
The prerequisites for this exam are: 1) to fill out the on-line CIW Certification Agreement; 2) and to hold the CIW Associate certification.
This exam, which is offered in English and Japanese, is moderately difficult and costs $125 USD. It may be taken from Pearson Vue or Thomson Prometric.
The pass score for this form-based multiple choice exam is 75%, with a minimum score of 70% for each of these two modules: Internet Systems Management and Advanced Internet Systems Management. There are 60 questions and the exam has a duration of 75 minutes.

- Common IT services, focusing on hardware platforms and frequently used operating systems
- TCP/IP configuration parameters, and Windows 2000 and Linux system configuration with static IP addresses
- User access levels, password policies, and permissions based on standard practice and procedures
- Management of users in Windows 2000 and Linux
- Domain Name System (DNS) in Windows 2000 and Linux
- Name resolution options for LANs and WANs, including the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) and Samba
- Internet services including FTP and Telnet, and control of access to these services
- Web servers, including Microsoft IIS and Apache Server
- Advanced Web server administration tasks
- User-based access to Web servers
- Limitation of access based on IP addresses
- Functionality of a Web server, including Perl configuration and additional services
- Web server connection to a database via Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)
- Configuration and management of streaming media servers
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) transactions
- Management of news servers
- Configuration and management of SMTP, IMAP and POP3 e-mail servers
- Configuration and management of proxy servers and Internet servers
