Certified Wireless Network Professional’s CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) is an entry-level certification for those IT professionals who are new to wireless networking but who want to come “up to speed quickly,â€‌ as well as for those IT professionals “already familiar with wireless LANsâ€‌ and who want to fill “in any gaps in their knowledge, and prove their expertise to help their competitive edge.â€‌

Planet3 Wireless launched the CWNA certification in the summer of   2001. Fairly recently, the certification changed from version 1.0 to 2.0. In terms of recertification, essentially candidates may either: 1) “recertify by passing the latest version of their current level of CWNP certification within 24 months of the initial date of the latest level of certification earnedâ€‌; or 2) “maintain a valid CWNP certification status by earning the next level of certification within the CWNP Program within 24 months of the initial date of the previous level of certification earned.â€‌

Job roles of those pursuing this certification typically include: network administrators, system administrators, and other IT professionals with wireless in their titles.

To achieve the CWNA a candidate must pass one exam.
