SYNOPSIS • CCIE vs

Cisco’s exams 350-020, “CCIE Service Provider - Optical�, 350-021, “CCIE Service Provider - Cable,� 350-022, ““CCIE Service Provider - DSL,� 350-023 “CCIE Service Provider - Wan Switching,� 350-024 “CCIE Service Provider - IP Telephony,� and 350-025 “CCIE Service Provider - Dial� include both a specific written exam and common hands-on lab exam as core requirements for the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification. You take one of the above written exams and then a common Service Provider lab exam. These exams are high level exams for IT professionals who have a very good understanding of “IP and IP routing, Optical, DSL, Dial, Cable, Wan Switching, and IP Telephony.�
A CCNP, CCDP, CCIP or CCSP are logical, yet not mandatory, prerequisites for this set of exams. Passing one of the written exams is a prerequisite to taking the common lab exam.

Each written exam cost $300 USD. They may be taken from Pearson Vue or Thomson Prometric. The lab exam costs $1250 USD and must be taken on-site at a Cisco authorized lab testing center.

Cisco does not publish the pass score for the written exam: “Pass marks are set by using statistical analysis and are subject to change.� This exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and lasts 2 hours.

The lab exam is a one day eight hour practical exam. In terms of its scoring: “Each configuration scenario and problem has pre-assigned point values. The candidate must obtain a minimum mark of 80% to pass.�
