SYNOPSIS • HP-UX CSA vs

HP’s exam HP0-002, “HP-UX System Administration” is the one requirement for the Certified Systems Administrator (CSA) HP-UX certification. It is designed for “technical personnel involved in developing and maintaining software for UNIX and/or Microsoft Windows NT based systems.” There is no specific prerequisite for this exam, but HP recommends the following courses or relevant practical experience: Fundamentals of the UNIX System (51434S), HP-UX System and Network Administration I (H3064S), HP-UX System and Network Administration II (H3065S), and HP-UX Certification Preparation Seminar (5079OS+239) (US only).

This exam, which is offered in English, German, French, Japanese and Korean, costs $100 USD.
It may be taken from Thomson Prometric.

This exam has 80 questions and lasts 135 minutes.

  • Managing and administering files, directory access and process control
  • Using Shell Features and Shell programming
  • Using I/O Redirection and offline file storage and network services
  • Interfacing with CDE
  • Administering the system with SAM and managing users in groups, peripherals and device files
  • Maneuvering through the file system hierarchy
  • Managing disk space with LVM and the file system
  • Administering swap space, NIS and DNS
  • Conducting Administrative tasks and planning backup strategies
  • Configuring the Kernel
  • Installing software via SD-UX
  • Implementing LAN hardware and configuring IP connectivity
  • Configuring routing, sub netting and the NFS
  • Starting system services, configuring Internet Services, and NTP
