The Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist is the first level of Microsoft’s new generation of certifications. The Technology Specialist certifications allow professionals to focus on specific technologies and distinguish themselves by demonstrating in-depth knowledge of and expertise in the technologies with which they work.

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists in SQL Server 2005 (MCTS: SQL Server 2005) implement and maintain databases using specific instructions and specifications. They have thorough knowledge of the product, understand how to use the tools and Transact-SQL language, and know how to navigate the user interface. Job roles of those pursuing this certification generally include database administrators, database developers, or business intelligence developers. They may also be individuals such as developers and systems administrators who do not work with SQL Server on a daily basis but wish to show their breadth of technology experience.

MCTS candidates must pass one exam targeting the implementation and maintenance of SQL Server 2005.
