Certified Wireless Network Professional’s CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) is an entry-level certification for those IT professionals who are new to wireless networking but who want to come “up to speed quickly,” as well as for those IT professionals “already familiar with wireless LANs” and who want to fill “in any gaps in their knowledge, and prove their expertise to help their competitive edge.”

Planet3 Wireless launched the CWNA certification in the summer of   2001. Fairly recently, the certification changed from version 1.0 to 2.0. In terms of recertification, essentially candidates may either: 1) “recertify by passing the latest version of their current level of CWNP certification within 24 months of the initial date of the latest level of certification earned”; or 2) “maintain a valid CWNP certification status by earning the next level of certification within the CWNP Program within 24 months of the initial date of the previous level of certification earned.”

Job roles of those pursuing this certification typically include: network administrators, system administrators, and other IT professionals with wireless in their titles.

To achieve the CWNA a candidate must pass one exam.
